I’ve talked about Claude skills before - what’s the point exactly?
There are many processes we do regularly: data analysis, generating reports, writing content, running scripts and more - everyone has their own use case. A skill is basically structured instructions you give Claude once, and it knows how to perform a complex task consistently every time.
Instead of explaining what to do each time - it already knows. And even better - it can also build skills itself based on what you ask.
Example: Brand Guidelines
I’ve created brand guidelines for several clients - a document that defines colors, fonts and visual style for a business. A repeating process - exactly what skills are for. So I created a skill that teaches Claude how to do this easily.
How It Works
Claude asks how you want to build:
- Have a website? It will extract colors and fonts from there
- Have a logo? It will analyze the colors
- Have nothing? 5 simple questions and you have a ready document
What To Do With The Document
This is the good part - Claude can create any visual output in your brand style:
- Presentations
- Landing pages
- Newsletters
- Business documents
- Social media posts
Define once, and all outputs come out in a consistent style.
How To Use
- Download the ZIP from Google Drive
- Open Claude in browser or desktop
- In Settings find Capabilities
- Under Skills click Add
- Load the ZIP and activate
Now you can ask Claude to use the skill and it already knows what to do. After the document is created, add it to the relevant project or attach to a message, and Claude knows exactly how to design according to your style.
The same document can be used with ChatGPT or your favorite model.
What Else Can You Do With Skills
The possibilities are endless - essentially turn Claude (or any other agent) into an expert in any field you want: science, finance, SEO, writing, technical topics - anything can become a skill to save time and get precise results.
Have a process that repeats? Maybe that’s your next skill.
